Tier 2 Sponsor Licence, UK visa changes and tips
By Sanwar Ali
The Tier 2 Sponsor Licence and Tier 2 visa scheme is frequently the only option for entry to the UK. The employer needs to provide a job to migrants and needs to sponsor them under the scheme.
We have our doubts that any scheme after the end of the Brexit transitional period will, in reality, make things easier for employers and migrants. The current Boris Johnson Conservative Government still seems to want to make it expensive and difficult for migrants to come to the UK.
NASSCOM challenges US L1 visa and H1B visa fee increases
Obtaining US visas is a huge burden. The amount of paperwork needed for visas such as the L1 visa can be enormous. Complicated and confusing regulations makes visa applications difficult and uncertain. Much of the time there is actually no feasible visa option for employers to be able to employ overseas nationals. Huge increases in US visa fees under the Trump administration will make a bad situation even worse.
Indian IT trade association, NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies), is challenging the legality of US L1 visa and H1B visa fee increases proposed by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). H1B and L1 visas are widely used by Indian IT companies to transfer highly-skilled workers to the US.
Trump US visa travel ban expansion countries from 22 Feb
It has been suggested that the new US visa travel ban is also racist in nature and is targeting mainly Africans. The most populous African Country Nigeria is included which has a population of 200 million people. The ACLU American Civil Liberties Union is still fighting the previous ban.
The US has imposed travel restrictions on Sunday evening due to the novel coronavirus outbreak that has so far killed more than 300 people in China and infected about 16,600 around the World. Those affected are foreign nationals who have visited China in the last fourteen days.
The travel restrictions relating to China are perhaps a bit less controversial. The other ban is more controversial as it seems to be targeting Muslims and Africans. The Democrats are proceedings with a NO BAN Act in Congress. Perhaps unlikely to succeed.
Brexit day and UK immigration and visa update 31 Jan 20
Finally after all the arguments, and drama over the last few years Britain is leaving the EU tonight at 11pm UK time. As there is a transitional period things will stay largely the same until the end of 2020.
So, if you are an EU or EEA citizen that wishes to benefit from free movement you should come to the UK by 31 December 2020. Unless the transitional period is extended after this date EU and EEA citizens who do not emigrate to the UK before this date, will come under what may very well be an expensive, restrictive and bureaucratic UK visa system. EEA and EU nationals living in the UK by 31 December 2020 have until 30 June 2021 to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme.
