UK Tier 1 entrepreneur visa coveted by South Africans
In the midst of political and economic woes in their homeland, more South Africans are targeting the UK’s Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa in a bid to invest their way to UK citizenship. According to Sable International managing director, Gary Kockott, there has been a surge in demand for the visa.
In an exclusive interview with Gareth van Zyl of Biz News, Kockott was quizzed about why South Africans are keen to apply for UK business visas. Kockott attributes increased interest in the UK Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa to ‘rampant corruption, state capture, a series of cuts and an imminent recession' in South Africa.
Tier 1 exceptional talent visas quadruple for tech jobs after surge in applications
Tech City UK, the government body that processes applications for the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa, has reported that the number of successful applications has more than quadrupled in the last 12 months. In the last fiscal year, 260 applications were endorsed.
The news comes in the wake of technology industry demands for special measures that would allow UK tech companies to recruit foreign workers, post-Brexit. The surge in applications and the number granted has been welcomed by the country's tech industry.
UK visas ‘won’t shutdown’ post-Brexit says Chancellor
‘UK immigration will be managed, but not shutdown post-Brexit.’ That’s the message from Chancellor Philip Hammond, who vowed that ‘jobs would come first, following Britain’s exit from the European Union. Brexit talks got underway on Monday, 19 June with Brexit Secretary, David Davis saying that ‘things looked promising’ after day one.
However, the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier said that there would be ‘substantial consequences from Brexit following the first round of talks with the UK.’ Barnier added that he was ‘not in the frame of mind to make concessions or ask for concessions.’
Trump must grant more H1B and L1 visas to combat outsourcing says Forbes contributor
According to Stuart Anderson, a Forbes contributor, restricting access to US H1B and L1 visas results in increased outsourcing. Mr Anderson argues that the more ‘Congress and federal government agencies deny access to temporary visas, the more likely they are to pursue investments outside the United States.
Mr Anderson believes that foreign companies will utilise their own offices, their network of business affiliates and contracting out to other companies as a means of circumventing US immigration regulations. The Forbes contributor said: “This is common sense and it reflects reality: We live in a global economy.”
