British business owners heading to US on E-2 Treaty Investor visas
According to a press release issued by Thales Group - a French multinational company – Orlando has become an important destination for British business owners arriving in the US on E-2 visas.
The E-2 Treaty Investor visa is a non-immigrant visa category for those who have made a significant investment in a US business in which the investor usually has at least a 50% ownership. Another visa linked to international trade agreements with the US is the E-1 Treaty Trader visa - for businesses engaged in substantial international trade between the US and the E-1 treaty trader country.
These visas also allow for employees of the business to obtain E-2 or E-1 visas to work in the US, provided they are the same nationality as the business owner.
Possible H-1B and L-1 visa restrictions won’t impact Indian IT firms
According to a report published by the Financial Express, India’s $100-billion IT services export industry won’t suffer any major impact if a new Bill proposed by two US lawmakers becomes law. It’s understood that the Bill in question seeks to further restrict H-1B and L-1 visas.
India and the US have been at odds over the H-1B and L-1 visas especially so in recent months, ever since US Congress passed substantial Government fee increases into law on 19 December, 2015. On 4 March, India lodged a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO), challenging the fee increases of $4,000 and $4,500 respectively.

New points-based UK immigration system uncertain
UK immigration minister, James Brokenshire, has dismissed promises made by Brexit backers during the recent referendum that the UK’s new immigration system will be modelled on Australia’s points-based system. In an address to MPs, he labelled the promises made by Vote Leave as ‘premature.’
Brokenshire, who is considered a close aide of newly installed Prime Minister, Theresa May, recently announced that the process of evaluating options for Britain’s new immigration system had already begun in the Home Office. It’s understood that the new system will look to stem the flow of migrants arriving in the UK from the European Union (EU).
Theresa May says reducing UK immigration will have to wait
Newly installed UK Prime Minister (PM), Theresa May, has warned ‘Brexit’ voters that slashing UK immigration numbers will ‘have to wait’; people had expected that Britain’s recent decision to leave the European Union (EU) would lead to reduced immigration.
The former Home Secretary has vowed to make changes to EU rules concerning the ‘free movement’ of people, which presently allow an unlimited number of EU migrants to come to the UK to live and work. However, May refused to commit to abolishing free movement entirely, stating that a reduction in UK immigration numbers will ‘take time.’
