UK Tier 2 Visa Dependants keep right to work in UK
Fortunately, despite a number of changes to the Tier 2 points-based system for skilled workers, prompted by a recent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) report, UK immigration minister James Brokenshire announced that the working rights of Tier 2 visa dependants will not be affected by the changes, a decision welcomed by the Permits Foundation.
New Tier 2 visa rules, the first of which came into effect on April 6, 2016, include an increase in the minimum salary threshold for experienced Tier 2 General workers to £25,000, while the minimum salary threshold for Tier 2 intra-company transfer short term visa holders has been increased to £30,000.
However, there is an exception for graduate trainees, where the minimum salary threshold has been reduced to £23,000. A second batch of changes are due to come into effect in April 2017.

For the fourth consecutive year, demand for H-1B foreign skilled worker visas has greatly exceeded the H-1B visa quota. There is now a lottery for the available visas.
Having allowed H-1B visa submissions from April 1, 2016, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on 7 April 2016 that petitions received for H-1B visas had exceeded the 85,000 available. As a result, US employers will now face a lottery for the coveted H-1B visas to employ overseas nationals.

British working holidaymaker deported from Australia
The case of a British man, in Australia on a working holiday visa who was recently deported, has led to calls for an overhaul of the Australian visa system.
Chris Bailey, the chief operating officer of high growth start-up company, Disrupt, was stopped by Australian immigration officials following his return from a business trip to the United States.
Bailey was deported to the UK following a decision that his job did not meet the criteria of his working holiday visa. Commentators say that Bailey, whose company allows people to design their own sports equipment such as surfboards and yoga mats, was targeted because he worked for a start-up company.
Quebec to accept 10,000 Canada visa applications from June 2016
The Immigration Minister for Quebec, Kathleen Weil, has announced the reopening of its online skilled worker program (QSWP), commencing 13 June 2016.
On this date, an initial quota of 5,000 skilled worker visa applications will be accepted as part of an overall quota of 10,000. The second batch of 5,000 visas will be issued later in the year.
The news comes following months of delays with the online system leaving more than 42,000 skilled worker visa applicants waiting since 26 February 2016 (the date the program was set to open) to submit their applications using the problematic online visa gateway.
