UK Immigration and high number of 'immigrant-origin' MPs
A new study has found that the UK, along with the Netherlands, has the greatest percentage of 'immigrant-origin' MPs. The findings are the result of an international project – 'Pathways to Power' – which studied the political representation of immigrant-origin MPs across Britain, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
There have been growing concerns in Europe and the UK about immigration levels. The good news is that the findings show that MPs of immigrant-origin are well-represented in Westminster. In particular, MPs of Indian descent occupy key roles; there were ten elected during the UK General Election in May 2015.
Nation of Islam leader supports Trump on Muslim immigration ban
Frontrunner for the Republican nomination for the US Presidency, Donald Trump, has received backing from an unlikely source over his proposed US immigration policy that would see Muslims banned from entering the country.
Louis Farrakhan, leader of the religious group Nation of Islam said he sympathizes with Trump's proposal to stop Muslims arriving in the US.
It seems that Trump attracts support from extremist groups. In 1961, Commander George Lincoln Rockwell, the head of the American Nazi Party, at that time referred to the Nation of Islam at that time as being "Black Nazis".
Farrakhan's comments came during an interview with conspiracy theorist and radio show host, Alex Jones.

2,135 Tier 2 Visa Certificates of Sponsorship available in February
UK Visas and Immigration has published its monthly Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) allocation report for January, which gives an indication of the number that will be available for the month of February. Employers with a Tier 2 visa sponsorship licence will be pleased to see that there will be good availability of COSs in February 2016.
An employer with a Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence needs to apply for Certificates of Sponsorship for immigrants they wish to employ. Under the current UK immigration system, unused Tier 2 restricted CoS to employ people who are currently based outside the UK can be reclaimed after three months.
Australians and others on a Tier 2 need to earn £35,000 for residence
In order to stay in Britain for longer than six years under the Tier 2 visa scheme, non-European nationals working in the UK probably need to apply for indefinite leave to remain.
To apply for permanent residence they will soon need to earn at least £35,000 annually (AUS$72,000 per year). New visa rules affecting Tier 2 visa holders are being implemented beginning in April 2016, which will affect workers from outside the European Economic Area.
Alongside Americans and Indians, Australians receive the most British work visas. Australians were granted 17,250 work visas in 2014; most came under the Tier 5 youth mobility scheme for those under 30 years of age instead of the Tier 2 visa scheme.
