Tier 2 visa restrictions causing shortage of Asian chefs in the UK
The owner of a small chain of curry houses across Kent - a county in South East England - says that being unable to recruit chefs from Southern Asia due to tough UK immigration rules is causing major problems for his restaurant chain.
In an interview with The Economist, Pasha Khandaker says that he was forced to close one of his restaurants eight months ago; others in his chain continue to struggle.
He said: “I can't recruit enough chefs from within Britain or, more importantly, from Southern Asia.” Mr Khandaker attributes some of his struggles to current Tier 2 visa restrictions. The Tier 2 visa allows people from outside the European Union to take up a job offer from a UK employer with a Tier 2 sponsorship licence.
Immigration advocates to convert US green card holders to voters
A coalition of pro-immigrant groups have joined forces to launch the 'New American Democracy Campaign' with the aim of persuading two million US green card holders to become US citizens who can vote come Election Day, which is scheduled for November 8, 2016. However, the deadline for registering to vote is October 11.

Trump supports undocumented US illegal immigrant amnesty!
Donald Trump is in favor of granting amnesty to the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the US, according to an opinion piece published on Newsweek online. The frontrunner for the Republican Presidential candidacy has always promised to create a 'deportation force' to extradite every last one of the 11 million undocumented migrants. However, apparently, under his US immigration plan Trump would 'move em back.'
Supporters of the real estate tycoon have given their backing for his plans to tackle illegal immigration in the US. Yet, they appear to have overlooked Trump's other promise that those deported will be allowed to return. Barring those with criminal records, nearly all of the 11 million illegal foreign nationals will have the opportunity to return and apply for some form of legal immigrant status to remain in the US.
Increasing concerns about Irish overstaying their visas in Australia
There are increasing numbers of Irish citizens remaining in Australia after their visas expire. Some Irish nationals who are no longer in work simply cannot afford the flight and resettlement costs to return to Ireland.
Irish citizens in Australia are also facing greater difficulties securing permanent residency due to changes in Australian immigration laws. Australian permanent residence makes it easier to find work as residents can work freely for any employer. If they are unable to obtain residence or a work visa some of them feel there is no alternative but to overstay in Australia.
