UK Top 10 immigration country for Skilled Workers
A new study puts the UK immigration system in seventh place for its ability to attract, develop and retain highly-skilled foreign workers.
The Global Talent Competitiveness Index, a study carried out by the Adecco Group in partnership with international business school INSEAD and the Human Capital Leadership Institute, found that the UK had retained its 2014 place as the seventh most talent competitive nation in the world.
The report was published about the same time as the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) review into the UK's Tier 2 Visa system was published. The MAC recommends that the UK government should act to further restrict the Tier 2 Visa.

Australian skilled immigration study on Immigrant Partners
A newly published labour force study, funded by Australia's federal government, has found that the Australian skilled immigration system is failing skilled migrant women who have emigrated as the spouse of an Australian visa holder. According to the study, thousands of female skilled migrants struggle to join the Australian workforce or see their careers grind to a halt because they're forced into low-income jobs.
Skilled migrant women, granted Australian partner visas because their spouse holds an Australian skilled immigration visa - such as the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) – are being labelled as the underutilised 'hidden assets of Australia' by the study's researchers.
EU exit to cut UK immigration by 100,000 claims Migration Watch
Migration Watch – an organisation that lobbies for stricter UK immigration controls – continues to spread anti-immigration propaganda. Migration Watch says that leaving the European Union would cut UK immigration numbers by 100,000.
The group estimates that net migration from the EU – which is the difference between the number of people entering and exiting the UK – would drop from 180,000 to 65,000 per year if the nation were to introduce work permits for EU citizens.
