Tier 2 visa dependants should retain UK right to work says report
In response to the Migration Advisory Committee's review of tier 2 immigration, a survey carried out by the Permits Foundation showed overwhelming support for the right of partners of highly skilled workers from outside the European Union to be able to work in the UK.
As an independent, non-profit organisation, the Permits Foundation campaigns worldwide to try and make sure that partners of skilled immigrants are allowed to work when they go abroad with their partner. Currently in the UK the spouse or partner of a tier 2 visa holder can work in the UK.
L-2 dependents traveling to US without L-1 worker need more documents
L-2 non-immigrant dependent visa holders who are traveling to the US without their L-1A or L-1B visa spouse or parent are reportedly being placed in 'secondary inspection' by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The change in requirements will affect the dependents of L-1 visa holders who lodged an application for their visa based on an employer's approved 'Blanket L-1' – a procedure by which a large company can pre-qualify to transfer employees –, without acquiring approval of a separate L-1 visa petition from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

U.S. E-1 and E-2 Treaty Visas instead of H-1B and L-1 visas
There are continuing concerns about the difficulties in obtaining L-1B intra-company transfer visas for specialized knowledge level employees, especially for Indian companies.
Another popular type of visa the H-1B non-immigrant visa for graduate level specialty workers run out almost as soon as they become available at the beginning of April each year. It is therefore important to consider alternatives.
Increasingly both employers and employees wishing to work in the US are looking at the E-1 Treaty Trader and E-2 Treaty Investor visas. There is no visa quota and the visas may in many cases be easier to obtain than L-1B visas and H-1B visas. You can apply for entry as an investor or as an employee. However, E-1 and E-2 visas are only available to nationals of certain Countries.
Tier 2 visa rules 'suffocating' small growing businesses
A new organisation the Scale Up Institute that helps small businesses with good potential, headed up by Cambridge entrepreneur, Sherry Coutu, and her business partner, Reid Hoffman, is urging the UK government to lift all restrictions on recruiting top talent from overseas.
They say that tier 2 visa restrictions are stifling growth for many start-up businesses.
The Scale-Up Institute says that preventing UK start-ups from recruiting international talent is 'suffocating young businesses and detrimental to the economy'.
