Ease Tier 2 immigration rules to combat chef shortage, says recruiter
Craig Allen, the director of hospitality recruitment company The Change Group, said a shortage of chefs in the UK could be eased temporarily by relaxing the country's tier 2 immigration rules.
Mr Allen said: "Britain's immigration laws are preventing a 'freer movement of chef talent' around the globe." He feels it should be easier for employers with a Tier 2 sponsorship licence to obtain Tier 2 visas.
According to research conducted by The Change Group, just one-third of applicants applying for leading chef vacancies in London are from the UK. Numbers fall to one-fifth for applications for 'chef de partie' [station chef] vacancies.
USCIS to allow early filing of US Green Card visa applications
Current US immigration legislation that specifies when a person can apply for a Green Card is set to change. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service [USCIS] has announced that commencing October 1, 2015, I-485 applications for adjustment of status [applying to switch to a "Green Card"] will be 'accepted earlier than the date on which a priority date is current.'
Early filing for a Green Card will be highly beneficial for applicants as they will be able to apply for work authorisation earlier than would otherwise be the case and be eligible to work freely for any employer; they will also not need to apply for an extension to a current, temporary work visa to remain in the Country such as an H-1B non-immigrant visa or an L-1 visa.
Please note that since this report was published there have been new developments. There was a revised October visa bulletin issued on 25 September 2015. Fewer people than expected can benefit from early filings of permanent residence. We will keep you informed of future developments.

Hundreds queue to renew Irish Visas in Dublin
Almost 500 foreign nationals queued throughout the night outside the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) in Dublin on Friday, 25 September. The crowd gathered at the Bureau, located on Burgh Quay, to renew Irish visas for work, study and re-entry.
The queue is a regular occurrence at the Bureau and tends to extend around the corner from Burgh Quay onto the Corn Exchange Place. Staff at the Bureau say that it's not uncommon for queues to stretch all the way around the block and then split into two lines of people near the GNIB's main entrance.
If you are a highly skilled worker with good qualifications and experience then we may be able to come up with an immigration route for Ireland.
Tightening of Tier 2 Visa Rules is a 'Threat to London'
Tightening tier 2 visa rules is a massive threat to London's status as a world-leading, global talent hub. That's the view of a top UK business group, who has warned the government that stricter rules for employing foreign workers from outside the EU will have detrimental impact on the UK's capital citys ability to attract international talent.
Recently, the London First business group made a formal submission to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) – an independent public body that advises the government on immigration issues – stating that tougher, tier 2 visa rules harms the prospect of companies recruiting the world's brightest and best.
