UK Tier 2 Visa Immigrants must earn £35,000 to settle from April 2016
From 6 April 2016 most Tier 2 visa immigrants must be earning £35,000 or more to qualify for UK indefinite leave to remain (also known as permanent residence), says the Home Office. Theresa May said the new rules will help to reduce the number of non-European Union/EEA nationals and their dependants that are granted permanent residence each year from 60,000 to 20,000.
The changes will be introduced for indefinite leave to remain applications under the Tier 2 (General) visa category, and the Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) and Tier 2 (Sportsperson) visa categories. The new rules effectively make it more difficult for many people to qualify for UK settlement (another term for indefinite leave to remain), most obviously those earning less than £35,000 a year.
Indian IT company, Infosys, to be less reliant on US H-1B visas
Indian IT company, Infosys, a global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing has said that they will rely less on the H-1B visa for its US facilities. Infosys CEO, Vishal Sikka, who took over the reins of the organization in August, 2014, announced to shareholders a more visa-independent strategy at the company's 34th Annual General Meeting.
Sikka hopes that the employment of more local workers and less reliance on the H-1B visa will help the company to reach its revenue goal of $20 billion by 2020. Infosys is also seeking to improve its sales effectiveness as part of a wider strategy.
Landlords to check UK immigration status of tenants
Immigrants to the UK may face additional administration fees from landlords and letting agents when renting property from September, as a controversial 'right to rent' scheme is rolled out across the country.
The scheme, which is currently being tested in some areas of the UK, will compel landlords to check the immigration status of all their tenants – and promises hefty fines if they fail to do so. If they fail to make the proper checks, landlords will be fined up to £3000 for each tenant who has no right to rent in the UK; such as undocumented migrants.

New UK Visa system for Chinese visitors announced by Home Secretary
UK Home Secretary, Theresa May, hopes to boost the number of Chinese visitors coming to Britain by introducing a new UK visa scheme. The scheme will enable Chinese nationals, for the first time ever, to apply for European and UK visas in a single process.
"It will eliminate the need for Chinese tourists and entrepreneurs to wade through masses of additional paperwork in order to get a European visa while planning a trip to the UK," said the Home Secretary.
California will subsidize health care of illegal immigrant children
A recently announced budget deal in California could pave the way for children, living in the USA illegally, to receive state-funded healthcare coverage. California would be the first state in the US to subsidize the healthcare costs of illegal immigrant children.
A deal struck between Governor Jerry Brown and legislative leaders would provide cover for an estimated 170,000 immigrants aged 18 years and under. It's expected that the plan will easily pass the state Senate and Assembly.
