Canadian opposition party calls for visa bar for anti-gay Russian MPs
One of the opposition parties in Canada’s federal parliament has called for Russian politicians who backed a recent law that bans ‘homosexual propaganda’ to be barred from visiting Canada. The New Democrat Party has opened a petition and called on members of the public to sign it. This would have made it impossible for President Putin to visit Canada. It has gained support from a wide range of Canadian pro-gay and human rights groups.
Mexico says President may cancel trip to Canada in visa row
The Mexican ambassador to Canada, Francisco Suarez, has said that a state visit to Canada by Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto next year maybe cancelled unless the Canadian government removes the requirement for Mexicans to obtain travel visas to visit Canada.
'We are now saying that this is a major irritant' Mr Suarez said. He continued Canada has the most stringent visa system for Mexicans of any country in the world'.
Mr Suarez also warned that the issue could affect Canadian-Mexican relations in other areas such as cooperation on energy projects.
UK Indefinite Leave to Remain requirements to change. Apply now!
There is now less than a month until most family immigrants applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK will need to pass both the Life in the UK test and an English language test to qualify. Give us a call at our London Office on 0344 991 9222 and we will help you apply.
Western Australia reduces school fees for 457 visa holders' children
The Western Australian government has delayed the introduction of school fees for the children of international workers on temporary work visas.
In August, it was announced that any worker in Western Australia with a Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) visa will have to pay AUS $4,000 for every child educated in a state school.
State premier Colin Barnett announced on 17th September that the fees will not now be introduced until 2015. He added that $4,000 will only be paid for the first child. Each subsequent child would cost only $2,000.
Canada to terminate citizenship process for applicants who miss appointments
Canada’s Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander has announced that anyone who fails to attend an appointment for a citizenship test or interview will have their application terminated unless they provide a good reason for missing the appointment. Mr Alexander said 'The application process has, for too long, been bogged down by persons who unnecessarily delay the process for everyone else by not taking the process seriously'. Examples of good reasons to miss appointments are caring for a dying parent or being incapacitated by ill-health or an accident. If you have an appointment for a test or interview but cannot attend, you should contact Canadian immigration as soon as possible and try to reschedule.
