Dear visitor,
The UK Border Agency recently announced it will increase its fees from 6th April 2013. Among the biggest increases are:
- A huge increase in fees for dependants. At present, dependants applying within the UK pay only 50% of the main fee. This will rise to 75% in April. This could cost you hundreds of pounds.
- Many applicants will also face much higher same-day appointment fees at UKBA public enquiry offices.
- In addition if you wish to cancel your same day appointment at UKBA PEO it will in future cost you £100.
Please note that from 6 April 2013 there will also be changes to the Tier 2 visa scheme. The changes will include an increase in minimum salary requirements, the skilled occupation list and some other changes.

From 25th March 2013, the UK Citizenship Test will become harder. It will be based on a new version of the Life in the UK handbook and will feature questions on the UK’s culture and history.
We advise you to apply now and take the old test. You may just be able to get an appointment before the new test is introduced. The test result can be used to support an indefinite leave to remain or citizenship application whenever you choose to make it.

On March 1st, President Obama authorised cuts of $85bn in US federal spending until September. The cuts have been caused by Congress’s failure to agree an increase in the US national debt. The cuts will affect the US immigration system. All immigration applications will be delayed. Hundreds of illegal immigrants have already been freed from detention centres in order to save money.
The US's immigration court system will lose millions thanks to budget cuts and the wait for immigration cases to be heard is expected to increase from its current level of 550 days.

The UK Labour Party has admitted that the last Labour government made 'mistakes' on immigration. Yvette Cooper, shadow Home Secretary, said Labour should have introduced controls on EU immigration in 2004. She said Labour would do so in future.
Ms Cooper said that the current UK government’s immigration policy is damaging the economy by driving away international students and failing to address illegal immigration. She said that Labour would introduce unannounced checks on employers suspected of employing illegal immigrants and give the power of arrest to UKBA officials.
