US visa services update issued by Department of State

The US Department of State (DoS) has issued an update on US visa services at embassies and consulates around the world. The coronavirus pandemic forced many embassies and consulates around the world to close. However, with lockdown restrictions easing in some regions services are starting to resume.

 

The DoS update includes information on the following countries:

Brazil: Immigrant visa services are currently being offered on an emergency basis only at the US embassy and consulates in Brazil, while routine non-immigrant visa appointments have been suspended.

Canada: Certain non-emergency non-immigrant visa services have resumed at the US embassy and consulates in Canada. The US consulate general in Montreal is open for immigrant visa appointments, with priority given to applicants who are the immediate relatives of US citizens.

China: The processing of fiancée and immigrant visa applications has resumed at the US consulate general in Guangzhou. However, non-immigrant visa services remain suspended at the US embassy in Beijing and US consulates general in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenyang.

Colombia: Non-immigrant routine visa operations at the US embassy in Bogota remain suspended, while a limited number of immigrant visa services are available.

Dominican Republic: Limited routine immigrant visa services are being provided at the US embassy in Santa Domingo. Meanwhile student visas services have also resumed in a limited capacity.

India: Amid a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths across India all US visa services at the embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata have been suspended until May 15. At the consulate in Mumbai, services have been suspended until May 28.

Indonesia: Immigrant visa services across all categories are available at the US embassy in Jakarta. The embassy in Jakarta and the consulate general in Surabaya have resumed limited appointments for all non-immigrant visa categories.

Mexico: US visa services in Mexico are limited and vary by city. It’s advised to visit the US DoS website for the latest updates. 

Nigeria: Limited immigrant and non-immigrant visa services are available at the US embassy in Abuja and the consulate general in Lagos.

Philippines: Certain non-immigrant visa services have resumed at the US embassy in Manila including services for F1 and M1 student visas, plus certain J visa categories and C1/D, E, I, O, an P visas. Immigrant visa services that have resumed include the IR1, IR2, CR1, CR2, and EB3 nurses.

Russia: Suspensions for routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa services remain in force in Russia.

Thailand: Routine immigrant and non-immigrant visa services have resumed at the US embassy and consulate general in Thailand. US visa renewal is also available to applicants by mail.

Ukraine: Immigrant visa appointments across every category are currently available at the US embassy in Ukraine. Meanwhile, a limited number of non-immigrant visa services are also being provided, mainly for C1/D crew members.

United Kingdom: Emergency visa services are available at the US embassy and consulate in Belfast.

Vietnam: All immigrant and non-immigrant visa services are available at the US embassy in Hanoi and the US consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City.
