If you wish to bring in skilled professional level workers with at least a bachelors degree to the United States, you should consider applying as soon as possible. As of 21 January 2011, there were only 2,200 H-1B visas left.
Each year, Congress mandates 65,000 H-1B visas to employ professional level foreign workers with at least a bachelors degree. An additional 20,000 visas are available for applicants who hold a Master's degree or higher.
Before 2009 demand for these visas was so high that in some years all 65,000 normal H-1B visas were used up within a day or at most within a few months of becoming available.
However, the US economy has not fully recovered from the economic downturn in 2008 which means that there is now a greater availability of H-1B visas. This makes it much easier for a US company to employ professional level workers from abroad.
H-1B visas are frequently the only way in which companies can bring in professional level workers from abroad. A significant proportion of H-1B visas are used by Indian technology companies.
