Amid US president, Donald Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric, which has seen him attempt to impose a Muslim-ban, demand the building of a wall along the US-Mexico border, tear immigrant families apart by separating parents from children, and more, a historian has discovered a royal decree banishing his grandfather, Frederick Trump (born Friedrich Trumf) from Germany. It should also be noted that Donald Trump’s father is also called Frederick Trump usually abbreviated to “Fred Trump”.

It is perhaps interesting to see that Friedrich Trumf (original spelling) had problems in his Home Country. The US was generous and allowed Friedrich to emigrate to the US. Other people as we know were not so lucky. Jewish refugees in the past and muslim refugees have been refused admission to the US.
Frederick Trump arrived in the US as an immigrant from Germany in 1885 at the age of 16. He initially emigrated to the US to escape poverty, attracted to America by the gold rush, which led to thousands of migrants arriving in the US from around the world.
However, as punishment for failing to notify authorities of his departure to the US in 1885 or complete mandatory military service in his homeland, Frederick Trump was issued with a banishment notice in 1905, ordering him to leave the kingdom of Bavaria within eight weeks and never return.
Ironically, Donald Trump received five military deferments excusing him from the Vietnam War in the 1960s, with academic reasons and bone spurs helping him avoid the draft.
Historical document discovered in local archives
Historian Roland Paul, from Rhineland-Palatinate – a southwest German state that’s bordered by Belgium, France and Luxembourg – discovered the decree in local archives. He told German tabloid, Bild: “Friedrich Trump emigrated from Germany to the USA in 1885. However, he failed to de-register from his homeland and had not carried out his military service, which is why the authorities rejected his attempt at repatriation.”
An excerpt from the decree states that ‘American citizen and pensioner, Frederick Trump is ordered to leave the region by 1 May at the very latest… or else expect to be deported. Bild described the document as an ‘unspectacular piece of paper,’ but acknowledged that it had ‘changed world history.’
Frederick Trump was born in 1869 in Kallstadt, which is now in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Upon arriving in America in 1885, he catered for the gold hunter masses in Alaska, allegedly running a brothel on their behalf. It was here he made his fortune.
He regularly sent gold nuggets, which his customers used to pay for food, to his sisters who had previously emigrated to New York and were trading in property.
In 1901, Frederick Trump returned to Kallstadt on a visit, where he met Elisabeth Christ and fell in love. He married Miss Christ a year later and returned to the US with her. However, she became homesick and wanted to return to Germany, Friedrich Trump’s attempt to repatriate were blocked by German authorities.
Frederick Trump appeals against royal decree
Donald Trump’s grandfather appealed against the royal decree, issued on 27 February 1905, in an effort to overturn the decision. Frederick Trump wrote a letter to Prince Regent Luitpold, referring to him as “the much-loved, noble, wise and righteous sovereign and sublime ruler,” appealing to be allowed to return to Germany.
However, the prince rejected Frederick Trump’s appeal and he, along with Elisabeth and their daughter, left Germany for New York aboard the Hapag steamship Pennsylvania on 1 July,1905. When they left, Elisabeth was already three months pregnant with Donald Trump’s father, Fred.
German authorities to blame for Donald Trump Presidency
Residents of Kallstadt, a small grape-growing, wine-making town with a population of 1,200 people in southwest Germany, now joke that Donald Trump becoming US president can be blamed on the German authorities who kicked his grandfather out of the country.
However, German authorities have been somewhat reluctant to claim the businessman turned US president as their own.
