Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued a call for proposals for language training and other settlement and resettlement services to help newcomers transition into their new life in the country. Various groups can submit proposals including non-profit organizations, businesses, community groups, and educational or other public Institutions.
CIC sets aside funding for settlement and resettlement programs and services that address new immigrant's needs, and help them establish and integrate themselves into Canadian society. Settlement funding is directed towards immigrants and resettlement funding is used for refugees. Programs and services offered include language training, information/referrals, help finding employment that matches an immigrant's skills and education, and help connecting with others in their communities.
"The Call for Proposals process is an important way to solicit service delivery opportunities that will benefit newcomers, such as language training and career counselling, and ensure we are getting best value for taxpayers' dollars," said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney. "These services are invaluable in helping immigrants integrate into their new communities."
Proposals can be submitted for the delivery of settlement services in all provinces except Manitoba, British Columbia and Quebec, which have separate settlement funding agreements. However, CIC said organizations in these provinces are welcome to submit proposals for projects that are national and international in scope.
