At a recent conference for language training administrators, Parliamentary Secretary Ed Komarnicki underlined the Canadian government's support for organizations that deliver language training to immigrants.
"The successful integration of newcomers is a priority for the Government of Canada," said Mr. Komarnicki. "Learning language skills are key to newcomers' success and language training gives newcomers the tools they need to fully participate in their communities."
He praised the work of organizations who provide English and French language training under the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program.
"Language training professionals play such a critical role in helping newcomers adapt to life not just in Ontario but all across Canada," Mr. Komarnicki said. "We're very pleased to support their work to help newcomers succeed. When newcomers succeed, we all succeed."
The LINC program is one of several federally funded programs to help immigrants integrate into Canadian society. According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, these programs "are an essential part of the federal government's immigration program".
New immigrants in Canada can also take advantage of the Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO), which helps migrants trained overseas to find the information they need to get their credentials assessed and recognized quickly.
Established in 2007, the FCRO provides critical information and referral services to help skilled migrants use their hard-earned knowledge in Canada.
Canada now has 320 'Service Canada' centers across the nation offering in-person services to immigrants.
