Funding provided by the Canadian federal government will provide new immigrants in the city of Moncton, New Brunswick with better access to employment resources and referrals to community services such as English and French language training.
The federal government will invest more than CAD $1.3 million in the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area (MAGMA) to provide these resources, according to Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy-Royal, New Brunswick.
"We want to ensure newcomers have access to the resources they need in order to succeed," Moore said. "With this funding, more newcomers and their families will be better prepared to begin their new life in the Greater Moncton Area. When newcomers have more opportunities, not only do they succeed but the entire community benefits."
Moncton is listed as one of the top ten fastest growing urban areas in Canada. The city's economy is mainly based on sectors such as information technology and commercial services and retail industries. In addition, New Brunswick has thriving forestry and mining industries, making the New Brunswick city ideal for many overseas workers looking to immigrate to Canada.
Robert A. Boghen, Executive Director of MAGMA, said that the increased funding will assist his organization in delivering the services that these new workers would need when they arrive in Canada.
"Moncton is recognized as an economic hub in Atlantic Canada. The relationship between newcomers and community agencies will strengthen our social and cultural fabric in all ways," Boghen said.
