On 20 May 2004, the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural (and Indigenous) Affairs placed the following Medical Practitioner occupations were added to the Skilled Occupations List (SOL):

Applicants will be granted 60 points for their Skill if they successfully nominate one of the above occupations.
If your nominated occupation is one of the medical practitioner occupations listed above, you must apply for full medical registration to the Medical Board in the Australian State or Territory in which you intend to practise.
Evidence of full medical registration with one of these States or Territories must be obtained in order to be able to lodge an application for migration under the General Skilled Migration program.
Full medical registration will count as a successful skills assessment for the purposes of migration to Australia under the Skilled Migration programme.
You will need to present one of the following certificates issued by the State or Territory Medical Board as evidence of full registration:
- full/unconditional/general medical registration; or
- conditional Specialist registration (that is, allowing a person to practise only in their particular speciality, with no further training or supervision requirements); or
- Full/unconditional/general medical registration
If your main medical qualification was obtained from a medical school not accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC), and you are seeking full medical registration in Australia, you must undertake the AMC examination process and complete a period of supervised practice. The AMC examination entails a multiple-choice questionnaire and a clinical examination.
Once you have passed both parts of the AMC examination, you can apply to the Medical Board in the State or Territory in which you intend to practise for full/unconditional/general medical registration, which entitles you to practise in Australia. Only then can you lodge a valid application for migration to Australia under the Skilled migration programme.
Furthermore, on 20 May 2004, the specialist occupations of Medical Practitioner were included on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL). This means that you will be able to claim an additional 10 points if you hold a successful skills assessment in one of these occupations on your skilled migration application. Moreover, if you hold a job offer in Australia in one of these occupations, you will be able to claim 15 points in your migration application.
